REGIONAL CENTER FOR PROMOTION OF MARINE RESOURCES
(C.E.R.M.A.)
In 2004, Westeam began
working on an ambitious project for bringing together available skills and
resources in the region and implementing a joint enterprise aimed at creating
and managing a research and experimental center for technologies associated
with the coastal marine environment.
The goals pursued with the
creation of the Center consist in the creation of synergies between the
production world (fishing, aquaculture, tourism) and the research world that
can materialize into new economic development and cultural growth opportunities.
This initiative was realized in late 2006 with the creation of a consortium,
"CERMA SRL":

Center's activity

The center's activity will
therefore be steered along two lines of complementary actions: production and
research.
The reproduction center
will therefore be of appropriate dimensions not only to satisfy the basic needs
of the Ligurian fish farm businesses but also to provide fry and juveniles
selected from various piscine, crustacean and invertebrate species for
intensive repopulation activity of the costal waters.
The scientific research
activity will have its principal partner at the University of Genoa and the
Intrauniversity Research Consortium which will complement the highly
specialized courses that can be undertaken within the system with stages and
examinations in the field.
The topics of scientific
research will address two main areas:
1) Fishing: through studies for
developing repopulation methodologies aimed at increasing costal fishing; studies of environmental dynamics and
definition of the parameters and indices of return; economic monitoring and analyses of
"intelligent" management of dimersal resources.
2) Aquaculture:
through the implementation of methods and techniques for reproduction and
rearing that can be implemented on the commercial scale relative to the
reproduction and growth of minor marine piscine species; improvement of efficiency in the production
cycle; implementation of food protocols
as a function of the definition of fish quality parameters.
